Adoption of latest cutting-edge technologies like IoT, AI/ML, AR/VR etc. have a significant impact on various industries including the aviation sector which has always been at the forefront of major changes and is the focus vertical for this blog. The solution that we would be talking about is how Truminds leveraged its deep expertise in IoT to deliver a Serverless IoT platform for monitoring private aircraft hangers and connect devices, for a US based Aviation client.


Background

From beginning with the systems based on legacy technologies and architecture, we faced challenges in attempting to modify/upgrade the system, on how to create a white labelled solution with similar functionality or how to upgrade the solution to be adopted by multiple clients across industries or to create a serverless ecosystem to enable faster deployment and customization.


We set out to upgrade the system which had the following features:


  • Creating a white label solution
  • Enabling multi-tenancy to easily support multiple clients
  • Cost-effectiveness to appeal to smaller clients or startups
  • Ability to completely configure the system from the backend

  • Use-Case

    The use-case is primarily about the adoption of IoT in Aviation Industry by automating the operations of aircraft hangar. Hangars are basically giant “garages” for aircrafts. This use-case deals with the automation of hangars that are used for private jets. Hangar automation primarily consists of opening and closing the hangar doors, controlling the temperature inside the hangar, and monitoring the equipment and personnel inside - all of which are done remotely with a mobile app. Only authorized users have access to the app, as decided by the administrator. This eases the safety and maintenance of the hangar, while not needing too much manpower.


    After successfully delivering the first version of the project in less than 6 months, our client then deployed it on the actual site for real-time usage. With the first version alone, they were able to cut down their manpower requirement by 80%. This not only allowed them to reduce the expenses on manpower but also opened the doors for further optimization by moving to a digital-first platform. Additionally, this system is now a proprietary application, which means that it can be white-labelled to further eco-system players with minimum amount of time and effort.


    Above And Beyond

    While our client wanted us to enable a serverless ecosystem, we went above and beyond to create a multi-tenancy architecture. The earlier version of the system was based on cloud-native architecture while the current system is 100% cloud-based and vendor-agnostic. This enables it to be easily deployed and transitioned between any cloud service as desired. Another interesting aspect was that we were involved end-to-end, even beyond delivery to the implementation, deployment and day-to-day operations phase.



    With this project, Truminds was successful in delivering highly scalable digital platform adaptable to different industrial devices, delivering yet another fascinating application based on IoT and continue to take on more exciting projects, solving real-time complex use-cases overcoming major challenges by providing simplistic solutions.
